If I have to hear Lady Gaga at another protest, I will lose it.
Lady Gaga is a Zionist. I guess it's okay to be born this way, so long as that way isn't Palestinian.
We are people, desperately fighting for our rights.
Not props for an Instagram story.
Stop posting pictures of your comrades.
We're being targeted and you're helping them. Stop that.
Protests aren't a fucking dance party.
If joy is your only act of resistance, you're doing it wrong, girly pop.
I am not saying don't dance, don't feel joy, but don't lose the fucking plot.
There is a time and place for everything.
Protests can be dangerous and we need to focus.
Protests are meant to disrupt the day to day, business as usual bullshit that we're used to. You might get in trouble. You might get hurt.
If you're not willing to risk yourself to protect and de-arrest other protesters, then maybe you should find another way to resist, especially if you're looking for a party.
I am not saying don't show up if you're not willing to be at risk, but stay out of the way and ask yourself:
What are your intentions?
What are you willing to lose?
You should also try:
Bringing snacks and waters to comrades on the front lines.
Making art, informational content, etc.
Using your voice through social media, family gatherings, council meetings, etc.
Joining mutual aid and volunteer groups.
Donate money and time, if you can.
Canvasing for progressive politicians.
Bullying your state and local representatives.
Small acts of protest in your neighborhood, like:
Posting fliers.
Putting up signs of solidarity.
Using your yard to grow native plants and food.
Starting your own community bin!
"Take what you need, leave what you can"
Fill with water bottles, pads, first aid, snacks, etc.
Helping your neighbors, your friends, your community.
Help them to learn, to speak up, to feel less alone.
Help without incentive.
Help without telling people.
Live your values every day.
Really picture what that looks like to you.
Peaceful protest is a great tactic, but
It is not always an option.
It is not a sign of moral superiority.
Rioting, vandalism, and looting are also incredibly valid forms of protest against a system that values property over human life.
The General Strike is our last, most effective, peaceful option.
If you don't like guns, don't own one. Don't vilify those on the left who do.
Join us in our common goal to pass effective gun control legislation.
But, if the other side has guns and is out for our neighbors' blood, we shouldn't be caught unarmed.
The armed people at a protest will most likely scare you, I completely understand, you do not know their motives.
Move away for peace of mind and safety, but know that a gun does not necessarily equal intent to harm.
In Utah, you do not need a permit to conceal or open carry a firearm. That is our right, whether I agree with the lack of regulation or not, and it cannot just be the fascists with the guns.
